As people celebrate the New Year, the American Red Cross urges people to list blood donation as one of their resolutions.

According to the Red Cross Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region, January and February can be a slow time for blood collection. Inclement weather often disrupts blood drives or normal business hours, and many people contract cold or flu symptoms that make them ineligible to give blood.

Since blood donation is so vital — one donation has the potential to save up to three lives — during January, all presenting donors will be entered to win a $1,000 gift card to a home improvement store.

People may make appointments at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. People may give blood at the following locations:

n Sunday, 11:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Reidland United Methodist Church, 5515 Reidland Drive in Paducah.

n Monday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 210 S. Washington St. in Clinton.

n Monday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Woodmen of the World, 100 S. Poplar St. in Benton.

n Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at American Legion, 211 S. Seventh St. in Mayfield.

n Jan. 24, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at McCracken County Public Library, 555 Washington St. in Paducah.

n Jan. 25. 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mayfield Elementary School, 1004 Backusburg Road in Mayfield.

n Jan. 25, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1620 West Main St. in Murray.
