More than 300 McCracken County residents are expected to take strides to improve their health and raise donations as part of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk in early September.

The annual event, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 8 in Noble Park, seeks to raise $100,000 to fight heart disease and stroke. The non-competitive, 1-to-3-mile walk includes teams of employees from companies, friends and family members of all ages.

Food and activities will be available throughout the day, including a kid’s zone, games, face painting, music and a survivor memorial.

Nearly 70 percent of Americans do not engage in regular physical activity, and this inactivity doubles the risk of heart disease — the nation’s top killer — which is largely preventable through a healthy lifestyle. The Heart Walk provides an opportunity for every participant and team to put the mission of the American Heart Association into action, and improve the nation’s cardiovascular health.
