Ernest Wayne Broyles, 86, of Paducah, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at 10:45 a.m. at Lourdes hospital.
Ernest was born in Paducah on August 14, 1926, to Fredricka and Charles Broyles. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Fargo as a 3rd class Electrician and an SP. On April 23, 1947, he was married to his sweetheart, Mary Sue Edwards, his wife of sixty-five years. He owned and operated Broyles Grocery for many years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after thirty-three years as a mail carrier, as well as a Union Steward. He was a member of Freemont Baptist Church and honored as a Kentucky Colonel. During retirement, he and Sue enjoyed traveling and taking their grandson Rodney to the beach. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet Broyles Goodwin; his grandson, Rodney Goodwin; and great-granddaughters, Lindsey, Pamelia and Abigaile Goodwin, all of Paducah.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Edwards Broyles; his parents, Charles Lee and Fredricka Suzanne Beyer Broyles; his sisters, Oneida Dye, Eloise Gilbert, and Evaleene Elkins; and his brother, Virgil Broyles.
Visitation for Mr. Broyles will be held Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Monday, May 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with burial to follow at Beyer Cemetery. Rev. Larry Smith and Rev. David Key will officiate.
