Kenneth Owens, of Paducah, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 6:22 p.m. at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Kenneth was born on April 29, 1928, in Humburg, Ill., to Thomas and Zelma Owens. Around the age of three he lost both of his parents and was cared for by his loving grandmother, Ida Barber.
After graduating from Pope County High School he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in Virginia, Gibraltar, Algeria, Malta, Italy, Sicily and France. He served on the USS Midway during World War II and afterwards as an Airman for the U.S. Naval Reserve.
He was married to his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Betty, on July 7, 1950, at First Baptist Church in Rosiclare, Ill. They were later blessed with their daughter Toni. He retired after thirty-six years as an electrician with Martin Marietta where he was known as “K O”. He was a faithful member of Spring Bayou Baptist Church for fifty-nine years where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He took great joy in repairing small engines, woodworking and spending time fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Athalee Jennings Owens; their daughter, Toni Edwards and husband Steve of Paducah; his sister, Lucille Davis of Golconda, Ill.; his grandson, Brad Edwards; his great-grandson, Vincent Edwards, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson and Zelma Catherine Barber Owens, and his grandmother, Ida Elizabeth Igel Barber.
Visitation for Mr. Owens will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
Funeral services will take place Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with burial to follow at Spring Bayou Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Terry Tipton will officiate.
