BENTON — Clint Elmo Reed, 94, of Benton died at 11:40 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard.
He taught music theory at Butler University and classical guitar and was a member of the music faculty at Murray State University. He taught elementary music and classical guitar in the Marshall County school system. He performed with the stringed bass for the Indianapolis Symphony and for the New York Philharmonic. He and his wife also owned and operated Reed’s Music in Benton.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Doris (O’Dell) Reed; three sons, Harry C. Reed of Benton, and Paul Clinton Reed and David Reed, both of Louisville; two daughters, Lee Ann Reed of Marianne, Fla., and Joyce Brown of Vinton, Va.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters. His parents were Cliff and Nina (Cole) Reed.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Collier Funeral Home in Benton. Burial will be in Lyles Cemetery in Benton.
Friends may visit with the family between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at the funeral home.
