METROPOLIS, Ill. — John C. Swenney, 86, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 10:46 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Massac Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military rites. Rev. Mike Duncan will officiate.
John was a retired boilermaker with Local 363, a member of Upper Salem Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict.
John is survived by his wife, Betty (Ramsey) Swenney of Metropolis; two daughters, Ruth E. Seibert and husband Bill of Paducah and Rose M. Swenney and fiancé Bud of Terra Haute, Ind.; three sons, John R. Swenney and wife Vicki of Metropolis, Gerald W. Swenney of Metropolis, and Kevin D. Swenney and wife Stacy of Newnan, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John W. Swenney and Effie (Warwick) Swenney Schneeman; his stepfather, Louis Schneeman; one son, Howard E. Swenney; one granddaughter, Virginia Powers; one sister, Myrtle Campbell; and two brothers, Carl C. Swenney and Robert B. Swenney.
There will be no visitation.
