Laura Geraldine “Gerry” Ewing Tilley, 94, of Paducah passed away at 11 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at her home.

Gerry was born June 1, 1918, at Corn Creek, Trimble County, Kentucky. After graduating with honors from Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana, she taught school at Milton, Ky., and worked toward an actuarial degree.

She and Edmond Allen Tilley were married at Hanover on June 12, 1940.

After Ed served in the Navy, he and Gerry moved to Paducah, Ky., in February, 1948. They were both active in Broadway United Methodist Church, the public schools and the community. Her faith was ever strong.

An avid gardener, she specialized in roses. Gerry was in the Church Circles, the Bell Choir, the Women’s Club and Delphic.

She was a keen swimmer, tennis player and golfer. She was a guide at the Quilt Museum and loved working with children.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Pryor Ewing; her parents, Noble Pryor Ewing and Mimeral McMahan Ewing, and her husband, Edmond Allen Tilley Sr.

She is survived by their five children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; son, Dr. E. Allen Tilley Jr. and Peggy Williams Tilley, Toby and Mary Ann Tilley Kidd, Troy and Tyler Kidd, Tom Tilley; daughter, Jo Ann Tilley Dortch and O. Nat Dortch Jr., Jeffrey Clark and Terri Dortch Clark, Jay Dortch and Cheryl Keeton Dortch, Logan and Laurel Dortch, Trip Dortch and Jenny Griffin Dortch, Zyla and Griffin Dortch; son, Dr. Don W. Tilley and Janice Lockwood Tilley, Keith Kindig and Ashley Lamar Kindig, Davis, Lief and Joshua Kindig, Laura Tilley, and James Pryor Tilley; son, Michael R. Tilley and Charlotte Tilley, Trevor Luna and Cameron Luna; son, Steve E. Tilley and Renee Hough Tilley, Chris and Sarah Rainey Tilley, Jonathon Tilley, Jennifer Tilley, Drew Martin, Matt Lozier and Amy Martin Lozier, Oliver Lozier and Georgia Lozier; Robert and Dr. Marion Dortch Rosser and family; and Dr. Jessiann Dortch McCarthy and family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Broadway United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Beal and the Rev. John Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the church.

Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
