SMITHVILLE, Mo. — W. Powell Keeney, 81, of Smithville, formerly of Paducah, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Smithville.

He developed substance abuse programs for Common Wealth Inc. of Kentucky and Massac County Mental Health of Metropolis, Ill. A treatment center in Illinois was named in his honor.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; one son, Brad Keeney; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Smithville with visitation following.

Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville is handling arrangements.
