METROPOLIS, Ill. — Mr. Jackie Wayne Gentry, 63, of Flowery Branch, Ga., formerly of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Jack served six years in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Yeoman third class Petty Officer. He served two active duty tours in the Vietnam Era, one overseas for two years ending in 1972 serving on the U.S.S. Desoto County LST 1171 and the other at Great Lakes in 1974. Jack worked in the car business for over thirty years. He was the F and I and Business manager at Wilson Chevrolet, in Paducah, KY, he also worked in retail car sales at Gentry Motor Company. Jack was baptized April 18, 1979, shortly after the birth of his first son. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home. Mike Shank will officiate. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Jackie is survived by his wife, Terri (Hickman) Gentry of Flowery Branch, Ga.; his sons, Jeffrey Gentry and Justin Gentry; grandchildren, Jacob Gentry and Jenna Gentry; sisters, Wanda Mizell, Linda Howard, and Sharon Gentry; brothers, Jimmy Gentry, Benny Gentry, Jerry Gentry, and Tommy Gentry; mother and father-in-law, Clayton and Betty Hickman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Thelma (Brown) Gentry; and one nephew, Jeremy Taylor.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis.
