DEXTER — Services for Howard Damon Mathis, 83, of Dexter will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery.
Mr. Mathis died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at his home.
A native of Marshall County, Mr. Mathis was a member of Hardin Baptist Church. He was employed at Tappan Manufacturing Co. for 32 years and then became a licensed embalmer and funeral director and worked at Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home. He served as deputy coroner for Calloway County for several years.
He was preceded in death by one son, Glen Mathis. His parents were Roosevelt and Euple Hopkins Mathis.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo Ernstberger Mathis; two daughters; Cindy Ross of Benton and Debby Orr of Hazel; one sister, Sue Thweatt of Almo; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home.
