Donald J. Vessels, 68, of Paducah died at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2013, at Lourdes hospital.

He was a retired U.S. Navy petty officer first class and a member of American Legion Post 31 and the Fleet Reserve.

Surviving are two sons, John Vessels of Medford, Ore., and Ben Vessels of Paducah; one daughter, Cheney Vessels of Oceanside, Calif.; four brothers, Michael Vessels of Paducah, Charles Vessels of Mayfield, Kenneth Vessels of Paducah, and James Vessels of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Margaret Shoulta of Paducah and Rebecca West of Madisonville; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Vessels; and one brother. His parents were James Allard and Frances Anita Vessels.

A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013, at St John Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Buckman officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Lindsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
