MURRAY — Charles Kenneth Pangborn, 89, of Murray died Thursday, December 27, 2012, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

He was a quality control engineer and worked on the Apollo Space Program, which put the first man on the moon. He was a supervisor at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site and was present for the first above-ground nuclear test. He was a pilot and aviation instructor in World War II. He also flew in the Berlin Blockade. He was a member of Martin’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, Steven Pangborn of Florida, Susan Rose of Alabama and B. Daniel Pangborn of New Mexico; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Burkeen officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home.
