MAYFIELD — Grandville Courtney, 81, of Mayfield died at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Superior Care Nursing Home in Paducah.

He was a member of Dublin Baptist Church and a commissioned Kentucky Colonel. He was ordained into the ministry March 19, 1965. During his ministry he pastored three churches: Bethel Baptist Church in Porter, Ind., Emmanuel Baptist Church in Murray, and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Cadiz.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Bell Courtney; one son, Steve Courtney of Mayfield; one daughter, Lisa Colston of Cadiz; two stepsons, Roger Burgess of Abbeyville, S.C., and Dickie Burgess of Dublin; one stepdaughter, Karen Tharpe of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Whitis Courtney; one daughter, Rhonda Joy Courtney; five brothers; and four sisters. Lon and Ethel Spraggs Courtney

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield with the Revs. Ronnie Stinson Jr., Greg Wells, and Richard Sexton officiating.

Burial will follow in Dublin Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the funeral home.
