James Herbert “Jim” Kissel, 90, of Paducah, Ky., formerly of Minnesota, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Kissel spent his early years working construction and later went on to become a Baptist pastor, ministering and planting churches in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Michigan. Jim also spent 10 years in Peru as a missionary. He was a devoted member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church and served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II, patrolling the Pacific Ocean.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia May Grimes Kissel; two daughters, Carol Scott Ballard and her husband Jim of Ballard County, Ky., and Susan Houser and her husband J. of Boaz, Ky.; one son, James Kissel of London, England; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were four brothers and 10 sisters. His parents were John and Helen (Abrahamson) Kissel.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Asberry officiating. Burial will follow at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery in Cunningham, Ky.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012, at Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
