MURRAY — J.D. Rayburn, 100, of Murray died Thursday at his home.
He was a retired professor at Murray State University after 12 years of service. He also taught and coached at Wheatcroft and Clay and was a former superintendent of schools in Providence.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hutchinson Bell Rayburn; one son, J.D. Rayburn II of Tallahassee, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Claire L. Bell of Atlanta; one stepson, George W. Bell of Clinton; one sister, Wilma Rayburn Krabill of Key West, Fla.; one brother, James Allen Rayburn of Sturgis; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Inez Johnson Rayburn; three sisters; and two brothers. His parents were Allen and Della Rayburn.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Stahler and Sid Easley officiating.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
