SMITHLAND — Joyce F. Buford, 69, of Smithland, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012, at her residence.

Mrs. Buford was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years and was employed with Florsheim Shoe Factory.

Mrs. Buford is survived by a daughter, Deborah Buford, and a son, Carl Buford, both of Smithland; four grandchildren, Dustin Lee Hardin, Ashley Danielle Hardin, Christopher David Doom, and Cody Allen Doom, all of Smithland; one great-grandson, Jacksson Henc of Grand Rivers; a sister, Joan Hood of Illinois; five brothers, Larry Smith of Virginia, Shannon Smith of Florida, David Smith of Illinois, Leonard Smith of Ohio, and Harold Jr. Smith of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil “Big Gene” Buford; a daughter, Melisa Doom; and a brother, Bill Smith; Her parents were Harold and Mary Dykes Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Pastor Judy Warran officiating. Burial will follow at Edmonds Cemetery in Livingston County. The Buford family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
