CARIO, Ill. — Joseph E. Ruiz, 82, of Cairo, died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday at Lourdes hospital.
He was a supervisor for Burkhart Manufacturing Plant in Cairo and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Illinois National Guard, serving in the Korean War.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Kolb of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; two sons, Joseph E. Ruiz of Cairo and Steve Ruiz of Rushville, Ill.; three sisters, Julia Willke of San Diego, Mary Owens of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Olga Ruiz of Delray Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Catherine Martin Ruiz; and his wives, Edna Ruiz, in 1987, and Olivia Ruiz, in 2008.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The funeral mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cairo with the Rev. Chris Mujule officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge with military honors offered by the United States Army and area veterans organizations. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.
