CAIRO, Ill. — William R. “Bill” Stokes, 87, of Cairo died at 5 a.m. Friday at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Charleston, Mo.
He was a retired sales representative for Nabisco, Inc., in Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri and was employed at the Barkett Funeral Homes in Cairo, Mounds and Mound City from 1992 until 2011. He was a member and deacon of First Southern Baptist Church, past president of the Cairo Rotary Club and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by one son, Kerry Stokes of Charleston; one brother, Wendell Stokes of Pulaski; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Stokes; three sisters; and one brother. His parents were William R. and Mary Schaefer Stokes.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at First Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Gholson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will also be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Barkett Funeral Home.
