Girtie Fuqua, 100, of Paducah, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012, 9:30 p.m., at McCracken Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah, Ky.
She was a member of Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Church Anniversary committee, Culinary Staff and Seniors Ministry. She retired as a Dietitian from Western Baptist Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Fuqua; her parents, Barron Mitchell and Pearline Frazier Mitchell; one son, Alvin Fuqua Sr.; and four sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Fuqua is survived by three granddaughters, Suwon (Joe) Ross of Shreveport, La., Phyllis White of Rock Island, Ill., and Gloria Dean Fuqua of Louisville, Ky.; three grandsons, Alvin Fuqua Jr. of Brownsville, Tenn., Stefan (Adonnus) Sains of Paducah, Ky., and Alexander Sains of Arlington, Texas; one stepgranddaughter, Debbie Blythe of Paducah; 20 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 1, 2012, 12:00 Noon, at Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend James L. Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday after 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
