Keegan Breese reached base four times and swatted a two-run single during a six-run seventh inning as the Paducah Chiefs overtook the Muhlenberg County Stallions 6-3 in Ohio Valley League action Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium.
The Stallions (4-8) scored in the top of the first inning on Brandon Ehrhart's RBI single, and added a pair of runs in the seventh on Brandon Harper's steal of home and another RBI single from Ehrhart for a 3-0 lead.
The Chiefs (5-7) answered in the home seventh, as Dixon Craft and Tate Mathis led off with singles and Spencer Shultz was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. After an out, Keaton Rice drew a walk, forcing in a run, and Breese stroked a two-run single, tying the game. Brandon Kelley bunted home the go-ahead run, and Christian Dominguez followed with a pop fly to center field that was lost in the lights for a run-scoring double. After a hit batter, Craft followed with a run-scoring single to give the Chiefs their final margin.
Paducah starter Jay Benard pitched a solid six innings, allowing only one run, but did not figure in the decision. Jacob Sawyers (2-1) earned the win, allowing two runs in one inning. Austin Shaw and Bryant Claunch followed with a shutout inning each, with Claunch earning his second save of the season.
Cortland Hampton (0-3) took the loss, as he gave up five runs in 6 1/3 innings. Former McCracken County High School standout Ian Walters had three hits for the Stallions.
