During Tuesdayâ€â ¢s opening round of the National Invitation Softball Championships at Illinois State in Normal, Illinois, it was Murray State erasing a 6-0 deficit to eventually top Michigan State 7-6 in nine innings.
Brenna Finck went 4-for-5 with a homer and two runs and Jessica Twaddle went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI and her 15th homer of the season to help completely flip the game against the Spartans.
Finckâ€â ¢s homer in the bottom of the third inning started the scoring for the Racers (36-18), while Twaddleâ€â ¢s two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth and her RBI single in the seventh helped close the gap.
Twaddle scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an infield throwing error, and then she did it again in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch for the winning score.
Haven Campbell went 61/3 innings for the Racers in relief, giving up just four hits with two strikeouts and just one walk.
In what is the double-elimination regional round for the national tournament, the Racers now face host Illinois State at 4 p.m. today in Marian Kneer Stadium. The Redbirds topped IUPUI 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Tuesday night.
