Burns fans 15 in Caldwell win

Madisonville -- Shane Burns pitched a complete game for Caldwell County with 15 strikeouts, shutting out Hopkins County Central 11-0 in Friday's high school baseball.

Burns gave up only four hits and issued no walks.

The Tigers blew the game open batting around with seven runs in the second inning behind five singles and RBI doubles by Dylan Gray and Noah Brown. The Storm tried to get things going in the fourth with back-to-back singles by Jackson Porter and Jared Bean, but Burns struck out the side to end the threat.

St. Mary 17, Community Christian 2 -- The top five of the St. Mary batting order were unstoppable as a group, going 15-19 with 14 RBIs in a 17-2 pounding of Community Christian Friday in Second District baseball action.

John MacCauley topped all Vikings with five RBIs, including a double and triple, and Brady Merrill pushed in four RBIs. Bryce Haas had two triples and Anthony Milliano clubbed two doubles. The game got out of reach as the Vikings plated nine runs in the third and six more in the fourth to take the wind out of the Warriors. Austin Weatherington got the win for St. Mary with Will Muiter finishing the last inning.

Logan Browning doubled in one run for the Warriors and Ethan Miller went 2-for-2 with the other Warrior RBI.

Union County 6, Livingston Central 5 -- At Morganfield, the Livingston Central Cardinals lost to Union County 5-6 Friday on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Cardinals had a 2-0 lead through four innings but the Braves tied it in the bottom of the fifth and went up 4-2 in the sixth from an error, a bunt single RBI and a wild pitch. The Cardinals took back the lead in the seventh after a Talon Cockrel single, with him scoring later after an error followed by Braxton Bebout's sacrifice fly, to go up 5-4.

Davis Corbett got a lead-off single for the Braves to start the seventh and stole home to tie the score. With one out and a man on second, Luke Whitsell launched a fly ball into the left-center gap and Cadre Duncan scored the winning run.

Paducah Tilghman 14, Hickman County 10 -- At Clinton, the Lady Tornado survived Hickman County's sixth inning five-run rally to win the back-and-forth battle Friday 14-10.

Neither Lady Tornado Chesliegh Pugh or Lady Falcon Gracie Lusk had command of the strike zone, with only three strikeouts and six walks between them. Pugh got the win, giving up 10 runs, but only four were earned. Lusk gave up 14 with eight earned due to a combined 12 errors for both teams.

The Lady Falcons had a 5-3 lead after three innings, but one run in the fourth and five in the fifth put the Lady Tornado ahead 9-5. In the sixth, the Lady Tornado plated three runs behind Darby Moffatt's double and singles by Katie Woodruff and Abi Eggleston to increase the lead to 12-5.

In the bottom half, the Lady Falcons pushed four runs across from singles by Lusk and Audrey Frizzell plating the first run followed by a three-RBI double from Bella Batts. Frizzell drove in the fifth run with her second single of the inning, but the rally ended with Madison Dowdy caught stealing home for the third out.

Henderson County 5, Trigg County 4 -- At Cadiz, Hannah Colbert put the Trigg County Lady Wildcats on her back -- both in the circle and with her bat -- but in the end it was not enough as the Lady Colonels held on for a 5-4 win Friday night. Colbert gave up five runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and three walks, going the distance for the loss. She either drove in or scored all four runs for the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Colonels were up 4-0 in third inning when Colbert went to work. She singled in the first run and scored later on a Madison Simpson single to get back in the game 4-2. Colbert doubled in one run in the fifth inning and singled in the final run in the bottom of the seventh, but the game ended on a double play with Colbert stranded at second.

Carlisle County 13, Murray 6 -- At Murray, the Lady Tigers tied the game 6-6 in the fourth inning but the Lady Comets soared with seven more runs to beat Murray 13-6.

Lady Comet Allison Blackwell gave up the six runs to Murray, but Christina O'Daniel came in and shut out the Lady Tigers for the last three innings, allowing only two hits. The Lady Comets put the game away in the sixth inning, getting six runs starting with singles by Mollie Henderson and Payton Ballard for the first run. With two outs, O'Daniel double in two runs followed by Taylar Owens' big RBI triple, and Owens scored off Maddie Martin's single. Brittany Morris singled in the final Lady Comet run.
