Murray State women's golf came away with a course-record 286 in Monday's opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama -- paced by a tournament record low of 68 (4-under par) from sophomore Linette Holmslykke.
But the Racers needed each and every stroke, as Eastern Kentucky followed with their own 286, as Elsa Soberly also carded a 68 to join Holmslykke at the top of the leaderboard and record book.
The rounds of 286 (2-under) broke the previous record of 291 established by Morehead State in 2011 at GreyStone in Dickson, Tennessee. The Colonels and Racers are 14 shots ahead of third-place Jacksonville State (12-over).
Looking for its first team title since 2014, the Racers used strong rounds from Holmslykke and Lucila Puente Rodriguez (71) to grab a share of the lead. Junior Moa Folke, last year's medalist, is tied for sixth after a round of 73. Raeysha Surendran is also in the top 10 after a round of 74 (tied for ninth).
Anna Moore was MSU's fifth player in the top-20 with a spot in 18th place after a first-round 76.
The course is playing a par 72 with yardage running 6,050 yards. The championship will continue at 8 a.m. today with live scoring available through links at OVCSports.com.
