Lady Marshals get 11-3 win at home

Staff report

Draffenville -- Marshall County put up 11 runs in the first five innings and Aubrey Jo Kemp did the rest in the circle, handcuffing the Lady Laker bats in an 11-3 drubbing Thursday night in Fourth District softball action.

Only one of the Lady Lakers runs was earned as Kemp scattered five hits, struck out one and walked two to get the win.

Payton Smothers got the Lady Marshals off and running with a lead-off double to open their half of the first. Lexi Miller followed with an RBI double, and Presley Jezik singled in Miller. Courtney Connor singled in the third run, and the fourth run scored on an error.

The Lady Marshals did not settle for a four-run lead and poured it on with one in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and the last run in the fifth to cap a 14-hit game. Addie Young had a pair of doubles to round out the Lady Marshal power lineup.

Christian Fellowship 15, Fulton City 2, -- At Fulton City, for the second night in a row the Christian Fellowship Lady Eagles scored in double digits, this time trouncing Fulton City 15-2 Friday night. After beating Fulton County 12-2 Thursday, the Lady Eagles have scored 27 runs while giving up only four.

Madison Ortt was in control for the Lady Eagles in the circle, giving up two runs on six hits, walking none and striking out five. Abigail Cima was the lone Lady Eagle to register an extra base hit with a double as she pushed in three runs. Caitlyn Ivy also notched three RBIs.

Baseball

MNH 7, Trigg County 6 -- At Madisonville, Trigg County mounted a two-run rally in the seventh inning but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell to Madisonville-North Hopkins 7-6 Friday night.

The Maroons jumped out in the lead, getting two runs in the first inning, and picked up two more in the third. The Wildcats tied the game in the fourth inning when Darin Brown singled and Drake Oliver was plunked by a pitch, setting the stage for Benson Stallon's RBI double to center. Oliver scored on a Justen Wease single and two more came in on Hayden Cunningham's single and a sac fly.

The Maroons took back the lead with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 6-4.

The seventh started with a walk, an error, and RBI single by Will Allen fueling the Wildcat rally. The sixth run scored on a fielder's choice, but the rally ended on a grounder to short.

Christian Fellowship 12, Fulton County 2 -- At Draffenville, Christian Fellowship erupted for nine runs and six of its 10 hits in the fifth inning to walk away from Fulton County 12-2 in Thursday night softball action.

Zailey McClain led off the fifth for the Lady Eagles with a single followed by an error and scored on Jaycie Jackson's single to go up 5-2 on the Lady Pilots. After a walk, Caitlyn Ivey doubled in two more runs and scored on Abbie Fletcher's back-to-back double. The Lady Eagles batted around and McClain got another single and scored on another Jackson single to go up 12-2.

Maddie Ortt got the win for the Lady Eagles, throwing five innings, allowing four hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Jackson was perfect at the plate for the Lady Eagles, going 3-3 with five RBIs.
