McCracken County softball moved to 6-2 this season with a road split this past Saturday, dropping Auburn (Alabama) 11-0 in five innings before falling to a top Alabama program in Sparkman (Harvest) 12-7.
In Game 1, the Lady Mustangs fleshed out 10 hits, with Kalli Harris leading the way going 1-for-2 with two walks and a three-run homer to end the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hannah Jones added a bases-clearing single in the bottom of the second to push McCracken's lead to 6-0 in the early going.
Taylor Poindexter had two base hits, while Abby Shoulders led off the bottom of the first inning by reaching safely and stealing three straight bases for the game's opening run.
Lakyn Largent, who had McCracken's other extra-base hit (a double), came away with the win after pitching four innings with four strikeouts.
In Game 2, the Lady Mustangs got a solo home run from Largent and a three-run blast from Elizabeth Lindsey, but couldn't overcome an early 11-1 deficit and eventually fell to Sparkman.
McCracken County (nine) and Sparkman (16) combined for 25 hits in the contest, none bigger than a grand slam from Sparkman in a seven-run fifth inning.
The Lady Mustangs would respond in the bottom of the frame with four runs, with Lindsey's shot deftly cutting into the deficit. Largent led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run and Harris would add a fielders' choice RBI, but no more.
Taylor Poindexter went 3-for-4, while Lindsey Carroll went 2-for-4.
McCracken County looks to continue its Florida-Alabama swing later this week with contests against Niceville (Florida), Daphne (Alabama) and Fairhope (Alabama) on the radar.
