MURRAY -- Murray State jumped out to another early lead Saturday afternoon, but this time the Racers were able to hang on and defeat Jacksonville State 6-4 in Ohio Valley Conference baseball action.
MSU took a 4-0 lead, but JSU (13-11, 3-5 OVC) cut the lead in half with a two-run fourth inning. However, Caleb Hicks helped the Racers regain their four-run cushion in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run single.
The Racers (15-11, 6-5) kept their foes off the board in the final three innings thanks to some solid relief work by Chance Carner and Chad Gendron. Carner picked up his second win of the season on the day as he pitched 22/3 innings and allowed no runs on two hits while striking out three.
The rubber match of the three-game series is set for 1 p.m. today at Reagan Field.
