Lyon defeats Tilghman

Staff report

Tilghman out-hit Lyon County but the Lyons found more ways to scramble for runs in a 5-3 win Friday at Brooks Stadium.

The Tornado plated two in the second to open the scoring with a run-scoring double by Josh Lang and Mitchell Crouch bringing Lang home with a single. The Lyons picked up one run in the third and four more in the fourth. Two singles and a walk filled the bags and the Lyons manufactured four runs on a groundout, sacrifice bunt, single and a balk to take a 5-2 lead. The Tornado managed only one more run in the sixth on a fielder's choice.

Carlisle County 7, Marshall County 6 -- At Draffenville, both teams came out swinging but the Carlisle Comets got all they needed in the first two innings. They handed the Marshals their first loss of the season, 7-3, Friday night.

The bats were singing for both teams in the first inning. In Carlisle's top half, Davin McGee opened with a single and Ian Fry immediately tripled him in. Michael Thomason then doubled in the second run, and Jake Hobbs singled in the third run of the inning. Not to be outdone, the Marshals also plated three in the bottom half. After a walk, Cole Griggs and Cameron Ives hit back-to-back doubles, and the third run scored on a sac fly.

The Comets continued the barrage, getting four in the second inning from Thomason's second double -- this time with bases loaded for two runs -- and a sac fly and ground-out scoring the last two runs for a 7-3 lead.
