First-grader Emma Overstreet, 7, reads aloud the essay that won her the Dream Out Loud Challenge on Wednesday at Symsonia Elementary School. Overstreet submitted an essay on how she will change the world after college, and won from among 1,600 entries throughout the state in her category. The aspiring dentist won a college fund in her name of $1,500, which is predicted to grow through stocks to approximately $8,000 in time for her college education, as well as $500 for her school. The scholarship comes from the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust.
