You won’t catch Brooke Davis unprepared. When she graduates from Lone Oak High School at 17, she will already have an associate degree in science from West Kentucky Community & Technical College, and she doesn’t plan to stop there.

“I’m a planner. I’m very goal-oriented,” Davis said. “I’m very excited about my future, and I want to get my life going.”

Brooke Davis, daughter of Trin and Kimberly Davis, is the Mid-Continent University Teen of the Week. Each Monday, the Sun features a different MCU Teen of the Week selected from nominees who guidance counselors throughout western Kentucky and southern Illinois submit to the Sun. Mid-Continent University will provide each Teen of the Week with a $2,500 annual scholarship to its university, which is renewable for four years. In the spring, a Teen of the Year will be chosen from the weekly winners. The Teen of the Year is eligible for a full four-year scholarship to Mid-Continent University or a cash award of $2,500, paid through the Paducah Sun, if the student selects another college to attend.

Davis has already been accepted to the University of Kentucky, where, thanks to her planning skills, she will be a junior during her first year. Her goal is to receive an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, then move on to medical school to study radiology.

“She’s like a counselor’s dream,” said Holly Miller, guidance counselor at Commonwealth Middle College. “There is not a day that goes by that Brooke does not check in with me to make sure she has the latest scholarship information, reviews her credits for graduation, or shows me her laid-out plan for classes the next semester.”

In what little spare time she has, Davis plays tennis, travels with her parents and volunteers in the community. The honor student says she enjoys community service because it provides an opportunity to find out about aspects of life outside the classroom.

“This summer I did about 60 hours,” Davis said of her service work. “I learned a lot about the community that I wouldn’t have known already.”

Davis credits her parents for helping her succeed. “They are very goal-oriented, just as I am. So they push me to be the best,” she said.
