As part of an attempt to set a world record, Western Baptist Hospital plans to take part in the Great Cloth Diaper Change Saturday to correspond with International Cloth Diaper Awareness Week.

Timed to coincide with similar events at 245 sites in 14 countries, the massive world-wide event is an attempt to break last year’s Guinness World Record of 5,026 cloth diapers changed simultaneously. The diaper change will be 11 a.m. Saturday, in the Baptist Heart Center auditorium.

A photo will be taken of the participating parents and babies to help document the world record. The hospital will provide baby wipes and diaper changing pads, but parents should supply their own cloth diapers.

Serena Anderson, local organizer from Pryorsburg, said cloth diapers aren’t only beneficial to the environment, but also the wallet, as an average parent can save more than $1,000 over the course of two years.
