ROSEBUD, Ill. — William “Bill” Jones, 89, of the Rosebud community, passed away early Monday, February 4, 2013.

He was born February 13, 1923, to the late William and Nellie (Faulkner) Jones of Pope County, Ill.

William lived most of his life in Pope County. After his father died in the late ’30s he moved from New Columbia to Tansel where his brother Clarence lived. At the age of 15 he began working on the farm for Freid Bender. After a time he went to work for Roy Heaton in the apple orchard. During this time he walked from Tansel to top of bluff, and then worked daylight to dark. In 1945 he went to work for Morse Capley where he worked for 11 years. He bought the Heaton Orchard in 1955. He raised cattle and hogs, but his main love was his orchard. He grew both apples and peaches for more than 60 years of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Wilson) Jones; five sons, Jimmy (Barbara) Jones, Hillis (Joan) Jones, David Jones, Mark (Jennifer) Jones, John (Alicia) Jones; nine grandchildren, Bill (Dana) Jones, Chris (Karen) Jones, Lisa Tanner, Toby (Tiffany) Jones, Rhonda Jones, Mindy (Tim) Colley, Jillian Jones, Landon Jones, Cash Jones; eleven great-grandchildren, Ashley (Chad) Williamson, Nathan Jones, Adam (Emily) Jones, Melisa Maynard, Jason Tanner, Mary Jones, Azlynn Jones, Sam Jones, Andrew Jones, Dayton Colley, Natalie Colley; six great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Maynard, Kaidyn Hornsby, Kameron Hornsby, Drake Williamson, Aubrey Williamson, Eli Jones; two sisters, Joyce Choate and Blanche Watson; sister-in-law, Georgia Palmer; and brother-in-law, Dan (Jean) Wilson.

William was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Hughes; and five brothers, Cecil Jones, Clarence Jones, George Jones, James Jones, Charlie Jones.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Ill.  Interment will follow service at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Bro. Jerry Parr will conduct the service. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the funeral home.
