BROOKPORT, Ill. — Sylvia Verlee Suttles, 77, of Brookport, IL., passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at Western Baptist Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Brookport First Baptist Church with Rev. David Siere officiating. Burial will follow at Pell Cemetery in Brookport.

Verlee was born November 5, 1934, in Brookport to Clarence and Cearl (Swinford) Wallace. She was united in marriage to William Howard Suttles on November 29, 1952, in Corinth, Mississippi.

Verlee was an active member of First Baptist Church in Brookport and retired from the Massac County Treasurer’s Office.

Survivors include two sons, Tracy and Boyd and his wife Tricia, all of Metropolis, IL.; 3 grandchildren, Elly Nelson and her husband Paul of Brookport, IL., Ben Suttles and his wife Alana of Taylorsville, KY., and Wesley Suttles of Metropolis, and 2 great-grandchildren, Emma and Abby Nelson of Brookport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Cearl Wallace; her husband, Howard Suttles; 2 brothers, Thurman and L.G. Wallace; a daughter-in-law, Donna Suttles, and one granddaughter, Kaitlinn Sophie Suttles.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brookport Chapel of Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Ben Suttles, Wesley Suttles, Paul Nelson, Terry Bunting, Mike Helton, and Scott Vowell. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Bill Gower, Otis Hutchison, Linn Smith, and Bob Suttles.

Memorials may be made to the Brookport First Baptist Church Building Fund.
