METROPOLIS, Ill. — Mr. Richard Mathis, 88, of Metropolis, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Jim Faughn officiating.
Entombment will follow at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
He was a member of Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah. He was a retired farmer and distributor of 19 years for Knapp Oil Co.
Richard was survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty Davis Mathis; three sons, David Mathis and wife, Heather of Paducah, Gary Mathis and wife, Tina of New Braunfels, Texas and John Mathis of Paducah; four granddaughters, Sara Matheny and husband, Philip of Benton, Amber Mathis of Paducah, Julie Flanders and husband, Jonathan of San Antonio, Texas and Carla Perry and husband, Robbie of San Antonio; two grandsons, Trent Mathis and wife, Rebecca of Paducah and Nathan Mathis of Louisville, Ky., and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley F. and Clara (Melker) Mathis; two brothers, Wendell Mathis and Dan Mathis; two sisters, Marguarite Riepe and Erma Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in the form of donations to the American Heart Association and the Diabetes Foundation.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home
Special music will be provided by Chad and Kim Davidson.
Pallbearers will be David Mathis, Gary Mathis, John Mathis, Trent Mathis, Nathan Mathis and John Coleman.
