CLINTON — Mrs. Mary Allene “Peggy” Hopkins Armbruster, age 81 of Clinton, left this world at 12:27 AM Monday, December 31, 2012, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center to be with Grandaddy.
Mary Allene Hopkins, nicknamed Peggy by a nurse in the hospital, was born 5-18-1931 to Vernon and Ollie Hopkins in Detroit, MI. The family which now included her younger brother, Jimmy, moved to Wingo, Ky., when Peggy was 15 years old. After graduating from high school Peggy met and married Jr. Armbruster. Their life together wasn’t always easy, but was always good. Running the A&W grocery, helping milk cows and raising two daughters, Peggy was not afraid of hard work.
Mama and girls followed Daddy when duty called him to Fort Smith, AR. After returning to KY Peggy picked up where she left off, and that included seamstress, teachers’ aide at Fulgham Elementary, deputy clerk in both county and circuit court offices were just a few of her titles. As much as she worked Mama and Daddy still found time to enjoy traveling with Peanut and Sue Lee. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Peggy is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane (Sidney) Howell and Linda Carol Burton, both of Clinton; 6 grandchildren, Carol (Shane) Byassee, Thomas (Amy) Crump, Jennie Crump, Joyce (Kendall) Byassee, Amanda (Matt) Hicks, all of Clinton, and Josh (Mallory) Burton of Union City, TN; 10 great-grandchildren, Harlee Byassee, Jack and Jenna Byassee, Dylan, Jacy and Marlee Hicks, Abi, Ava and Brody Burton. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Rennick Armbruster Jr.; parents, Vernon and Ollie Hopkins; brother, James F. Hopkins, and one grandchild, David Crump.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home in Clinton; Rev. Rick Burton and Rev. David Gossum will officiate. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Clinton. Donations: New Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Mickie Evans, 691 ST. In the words of Van Dyke, “Just at the moment when someone at her side says “There She’s gone.” There are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout. “Here she comes.”
