Norbert Anthony Schmitt, 89, of Paducah, passed away at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Schmitt was born June 6, 1923, to the late Charles James Schmitt and Mary Poat Schmitt. He married the former Amilda Kaufman on May 19, 1953. He was the owner of N.A. Schmitt & Son, a distributor of Archway Cookies and many other varieties for over 30 years throughout western Kentucky. He was caring, generous, and devoted to his faith, family, and community. He loved working in his garden and sharing fresh vegetables with friends, family, and those in need.

Norbert was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, a lifetime member and 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council #1055, serving over 60 years; a member of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Board, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Schmitt is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Amilda; one sister, Rose Marie Weitlauf and husband Tommy of Paducah; daughter-in-law, Linda Job Schmitt of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Terry Louis Schmitt; three sisters, Benita Smith, Mary Catherine Powell and Eleanor Schmitt; and a brother, Carl Schmitt.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Rev. J. Patrick Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery with Military Honors.

Prayers will be said at 5 p.m. with visitation from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2012, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
