WICKLIFFE — Morine Halteman, 87, of Wickliffe, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Life Care Nursing Home at 4:15 a.m.

Born Alice Morine Blankenship on April 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Dell Reeves Blankenship of Barlow and grew up in the North Ballard community near Wickliffe. She attended Blandville and Wickliffe Schools and was a member of North Ballard Missionary Baptist Church.

She married Joe R. Halteman on September 26, 1943, and after his service in the U.S. Army, they moved to a farm outside Wickliffe where they lived for nearly 65 years and raised their family. She was a homemaker and later retired from Burkart.

Her husband and a daughter, Marilyn Jo Halteman, preceded her in death; as well as two older brothers, Burnett Blankenship and Harold “Tick” Blankenship; and an infant brother.

She leaves behind three daughters, Carolyn Halteman of La Center, Judy Gill and husband Byron, and Gloria Butterbaugh and husband John; and a grandson, Chris Halteman and wife Kristy, all of Wickliffe. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Blankenship Teems of Barlow and Pat Simmons of Cairo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lovingly known as “Mammie” by her family and friends, Morine was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, a proud mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law. She was a dear sister-in-law and a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews who were very special to her.

“Mammie” always put others before herself. Her best gift was a caring and generous heart. Nothing pleased her more than to give to others. She enjoyed taking care of her family and her home, working in her yard and garden, and caring for her pets and farm animals. She was a special friend to many and loved to reminisce with old friends and neighbors. She will always be remembered for her tireless energy, her care and concern for others, and her generous ways.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with Bro. David Norment and Bro. Billy Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Wickliffe City Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013, at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to any charity.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.” Galatians 5:22.
