METROPOLIS, Ill. — Milton E. “Bud” Wetherington, 84, of Brentwood, Tenn., formerly of Metropolis, Ill., passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Somerfield Health Center in Brentwood, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Metropolis. Rev. Jon Cockrel and Rev. Jeff Bealmear will officiate. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.

Milton was a member of First United Methodist Church in Metropolis, Masonic Lodge #91, and the International Union of Operating Engineers #148. He served in the US Navy from December 28, 1950, to October 4, 1954. He attained the rank of BM3 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was stationed to the USS Sequoia at Anacostia in DC, which was the Secretary of the Navy’s Yacht. He served with the Illinois National Guard and worked as a brick mason before going to work at Electric Energy, Inc. in April of 1956. He retired from EEI, Inc. on September 1, 1990. Milton also worked as a real estate agent and owned The Campsite, a retail camping store in Metropolis.

Milton is survived by a daughter, Carol Holloway of Winter Park, Fla.; a son, M. Sturgis Wetherington and wife Susan of Parker, Colo.; three granddaughters, Laura Weatherson of Larkspur, Colo., Megan Holloway, and Kara Holloway, both of Winter Park, Fla.; a great-grandson, Liam Weatherson of Larkspur, Colo.; a great-granddaughter, Lydia Weatherson of Larkspur, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey E. Wetherington and Ethel (Fischer) Ditterline; stepfather, Thomas Ditterline; wife of 61 years, Sue (Sturgis) Wetherington; three brothers, Dewey A. Wetherington, Bobby Joe Wetherington, and an infant brother Jack.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis, Ill., and Sunday after 1 p.m. at the church.
