Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Medley of Metropolis, Ill., announce the engagement of their daughter, Whitney Brooke Medley, to Dr. Brett Francis Bechtel, son of Richard and Cynthia Bechtel of Southborough, Mass.

Miss Medley is the granddaughter of Burtie Welch Griffin of Haughton, La., and the late Virgil Welch, and Mary Ruth Medley of Metropolis, Ill., and the late Warren G. Harding Medley. She is a 2002 valedictorian graduate of Massac County sports_high_school, a 2006 summa cum laude graduate with honors of Murray State University in Murray, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a 2010 graduate of Middle Tennessee School of Anesthia with a master’s degree in nurse anthesia. She is an alumna of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She is employed by Nashville General Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Bechtel is the grandson of Betty Francis Seidel of Breinigsville, Pa., and the late Donald Francis, and Anna Bechtel of Allentown, Pa., and the late Clifford Bechtel. He is a 1999 graduate of Algonquin Regional sports_high_school in Southborough, a 2003 cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., with a bachelor’s degree in pre-med and a 2007 graduate of Wake Forest Medical School with a doctor of medicine degree. He is an alumnus of Theta Chi fraternity. He is employed by Vanderbilt University Hospital in the emergency department.

A May wedding is planned at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville.
