WINGO — Mr. Lloyd Edward Clapp, age 85, of Wingo, Ky., went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at 1:55 p.m. at the Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 22, 1927, to the late C.A. (Art) and Maultie (Sis) Proctor Clapp.

Mr. Clapp served as a sergeant first class in the Army Signal Corps in World War II and the Korean War. In 1957 and 1958, while working in the credit life insurance industry, he was selected both Mr. Exchangite and Tennessee State Exchangite of the Year. From 1966 to 1987, he served as the Second District’s representative in the Kentucky House of Representatives and was elected House Speaker Pro Tem twice, serving four years in that position during former Governor Julian Carroll’s administration. After deciding not to seek re-election after 21 years of service, he again represented the Commonwealth’s interests as Legislative Liaison for the Governor and Lt. Governor from 1989-1994 and as a member of the Kentucky Legislative Ethics Commission from 1995-2005. He was a member of the Wingo Baptist Church for 52 years and served as both a trustee and Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Mary Anderson Clapp of Wingo, Ky.; his daughter, Lana (Randell) Wilson of Kuttawa, Ky.; his daughter, Lisa (Roy) Bunch of Wingo, Ky.; his son, Lyle Clapp of Wingo, Ky.; his sister, Sue Williams of Pekin, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers, Ozell Clapp, Wilson Clapp, Murrell Clapp, Earl Clapp and Gene Clapp, and two sisters, Lennie Davenport and Essie Burgess.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield, Ky., with J.R. Gray and Rev. Chris Clark officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow in the Wingo Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield, Ky.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Charity Langhi, Allison Clark, Marcie Peck, Joey Clark, Zackary Clapp, Steven Henderson and Laken Clapp.
