SALEM — Kathryn Kirk Stone, 91, died peacefully on October 16, 2012, in Port Townsend, Washington. Kathryn was born August 6, 1921, in Salem, Kentucky, the daughter of Al and Fanny Kirk.
Kathryn grew up in Salem and married Willard Stone in 1941. After Willard’s service in World War II, they settled in Salem with their two daughters. In 1963, they moved to Tucson, Arizona, where Kathryn continued to reside until 2005. Since that time, Kathryn has lived in Torrance, California, and Port Townsend, Washington, to be near her daughters.
Family and friends were Kathryn’s passion and delight. She loved to entertain and made lifelong friends wherever she lived. Kathryn was active in Salem Methodist Church when she lived in Kentucky and in Saint Paul’s Methodist Church in Tucson. She served as a volunteer for various service organizations throughout her lifetime.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Jan Stone and Vicki Stone; and her grandchildren, Lindsay Koyanagi and Jonathan Berghouse.
There will be a celebration of Kathryn’s life at a gravesite service at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 21 at Salem Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the wonderful Hospice organization in Port Townsend, Hospice Foundation For Jefferson Healthcare, mailed to: 2500 W. Sims Way, Port Townsend, Washington 98368, and marked “In Memory of Kathryn Stone.”
