God called his faithful son, John Boyce Birdsong, home at 7:18 p.m. Thursday, November 29th, 2012, at Calvert City Convalescent Center.

Your work on earth is done. Boyce was born November 23, 1931, to Rev. John Kelly Birdsong and Virgie Myrtus Harris Birdsong.

Boyce lived in Calvert City and was a member of Gilbertsville Baptist Church since 1958 and had served as senior usher and trustee.

He loved to rabbit hunt and served his country as a United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He retired from SKW Alloys in Calvert City.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Sue and Jeff Stevenson of Calvert City.; three grandchildren, Samantha Edging and her husband C.J. of Phoenix, Ariz., Randy Stevenson of Benton, and Amber Montgomery and her husband Jordon of Calvert City; a great-grandson, Treven Montgomery of Calvert City; two sisters, Helen Noles and Lunell VanVactor, both of Calvert City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Mahala Freeman Birdsong; a son, David L. Birdsong; and two sisters, Lela Mae Redfern and Sarah June Baize.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home and Crematory. Bro. David Brasher and Rev. Darrell Walker will officiate and burial with military rites will follow in Marshall County Memory Gardens. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home & Crematory.
