METROPOLIS, Ill. — James Elmer Johns, 89, of Metropolis, passed away at his home March 15, 2012.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Michael Shank officiating.
Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens along with military graveside rites.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda; two daughters, Karen Woods and husband Steve of Paducah and Beth Shelton and husband Galen of Metropolis; four grandchildren, Dr. Dustin Woods of Louisville, Natalie Brenningmeyer and husband Jake of Paducah, Emily Forthman and husband Adam, and Cody and wife Kim Shelton, all of Metropolis; and one great-granddaughter, Jordan Forthman of Metropolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalma and Effie (Sharp) Johns; two brothers, Woodrow (Woody) and Merrit Johns; and one sister, Violet Coates.
He was an Army veteran serving during WWII and was retired from Frank Farmer Chevrolet as their parts manager after 45 years of service.
He was a member of Metropolis Church of Christ.
Memorials may be given to: Metropolis Church of Christ, 3003 N. US 45, Metropolis, IL 62960.
Pallbearers will be: Jake Brenningmeyer, Cody Shelton, Adam Forthman, Steve Woods, Galen Shelton, Dustin Woods.
