BENTON — James David Filbeck, age 65, of Benton, Ky., died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2012, in Benton, Ky., at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born April 14, 1947, James was a 1965 graduate of South Marshall High School and served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army.
James was a retired geological surveyor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Abundant Life Worship Center of Calvert City, Ky.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Betty (Phelps) Filbeck; his mother, Dorothy Mae (Seaford) Filbeck; his beloved son and daughter, Trent Woodruff Filbeck and wife Cheri (Henson); and Pamela Sue (Filbeck) Kimberlin; and his adoring five grandchildren, Dakota James Woodruff, Ashli Lake Woodruff, Dillon Jay Culp, John Thomas “JT” Kimberlin and Hailee Deshae Kimberlin, all of Benton, Ky. He is also survived by one brother, Joe Thomas “Joey” Filbeck Jr., and one sister, Gail Greer and husband, Leonard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Thomas Filbeck Sr.; and his grandparents, Ruben and Mamie (Jones) Filbeck, and James Fielddon and Monnie Etta (Price) Seaford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012, at the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, Ky., with Bro. Lynn McWherter officiating.
Interment with military honors are to follow at the Union Ridge Cemetery, Benton, Ky.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, Ky.
