James ‘Tony’ McClure

DUNNELLON, Fla. — Mr. James A. “Tony” McClure, 64, of Dunnellon, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

He was born in Mayfield, Ky., on Nov. 28, 1947, to Jeanne Austin of Dunnellon, Fla., and the late Jimmy McClure of Mayfield, Ky.

Tony served as a Navy corpsman in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and bravery. In 1971 he was awarded Outstanding Veteran of the Year by the Disabled American Veterans. He then graduated from Murray State University in 1974. Throughout his lifetime he became an administrator with the Boy Scouts, a Kentucky state fire marshal, a member of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America program, a Kentucky Colonel and a mayor of Yankeetown, Fla., as well as many Florida civic and volunteer organizations.

Later in life he founded Dunnellon Wine and Spirits and retired in 2009. He was an accomplished chef and lover of horse racing and travel.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanne Austin; his brothers, Ronnie (Sarita) McClure of Paducah, Ky., and Scott (Deanna) McClure of Mayfield, Ky.; his son, James A. “Allan” McClure of Floral City, Fla.; nieces, Lindsey (Steve) Jones and Lexi McClure; nephews, Derek (Charity) McClure and Tyler (Kacie) McClure; grandniece, Kirsten McClure; grandnephews, Mason Jones and Wes Jones, Tristan McClure and Drew McClure.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at 9768 SW 195th Circle, Dunnellon, Fla.

A later service will be held in Noble Park in Paducah, Ky., and his ashes will be placed in the Barrow Family Cemetery in the Land Between the Lakes, Ky.
