‘Fast Five’
In the wonderful world of this year’s sequel bonanza, it seems as if almost every horror movie, action thriller and drama are getting a second chapter with updated characters. Add the clan of “The Fast and the Furious” to that long list.
“Fast Five,” obviously the fifth installment in the movie series, follows series regulars Brian O’Connor, played by Paul Walker, and Dom Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, as they evade the law to Rio de Janeiro. Their last job, which will hopefully allow them their freedom, is extremely dangerous and will require bringing in many of their past friends for help. Throughout the movie they also have to deal with being hunted by Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, a federal agent charged with catching O’Connor and Toretto.
The original movie was very successful, and subsequent movies did their own damage at the box office. So bringing back the most popular characters is a great idea. Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris all reprise their roles in “Fast Five,” but the addition of the man known affectionately as “The Rock” is also a strong addition to the cast.
One thing that can be said for all five movies is that the action is non-stop. While the cars are still the focus in “Fast Five,” and the driving scenes are bar-none, there’s a lot of different kinds of action in the movie. Police chases, shootouts and even hand-to-hand combat make this installment just a bit more interesting than the others.
