‘Red Riding Hood’

The story of "Little Red Riding Hood" has been told many times. It's a fairytale, and it has been made into a movie before. But not like this.

"Red Riding Hood" takes a more gothic look at the classic. Valerie, played by Amanda Seyfried, falls in love with Peter, even though she is expected to marry another man in the village. While sorting through the love triangle, the village is ravaged by a werewolf, who steals and eats people in the night. The village fights against the werewolf before learning that during the day, he turns into a human and may in fact be one of the townspeople

While it is a classic story, the dark spin that director Catherine Hardwicke has put on it is both visually and mentally stimulating. Hardwicke is the mastermind behind movies like the cult classic "Lords of Dogtown" and the wildly popular first installment of "Twilight." She knows how to make a movie that has dark undertones, and "Red Riding Hood" is no exception.

With a cast anchored by Seyfried along with Gary Oldman as the werewolf hunter, it is not hard to see how "Red Riding Hood" could be, at the very least, a new and interesting take on an old classic.
