MAYFIELD — Mr. Ernest Lee Heathcott Jr., age 66, of Mayfield, Ky., died at 9 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at his residence.
He was a member of the Macedonia Church of Christ and from his early days as a young boy always felt called to the ministry and later became a minister for the Church of Christ, serving as the minister for the Bandana Church of Christ, as well as filling in at his home church when needed.
Ernest Lee was a pipefitter by trade and a member of the Pipefitters Local 184. He was also a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, was a Boy Scout Master for over 20 years, and attended Murray State University and Freed-Hardeman College.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Susan Heathcott of Mayfield; his sister, Linda Carter and her husband Jesse of Lone Oak, and her children nephew Bruce Michael Carter and niece Tracy Renee Carter of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Tyler Lee Heathcott, Taylor Lynn Heathcott, Tory Ann Heathcott, and Allie Montgomery, all of Mayfield; his former wife, Janis Morris of Paducah and her children, his stepdaughters, Lesa R. Rogers and Elizabeth L. Morris of Paducah, and stepgranddaughter, Delany Rogers of Paducah; and an aunt, Betty Lou Faulkner of Wingo, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sondra Kay Heathcott, and his parents, Ernest Lee and Ollie Fay Bruce Heathcott Sr.
Funeral services for Ernest Lee will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Macedonia Church of Christ with Jim Sloan officiating.
Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 26.
Friends are invited to call after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield, Ky. The body will lie in state at the Macedonia Church of Christ from 12 noon on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Carter, Mark Ashburn, Ricky Taylor, Marty Leonard, John Bell and Michael Glover. Honorary pallbearers will be Rexal Leonard, Greg Sloan and Bruce Carter.
