MARION — Anna Smith Collins, 101, of Marion, Ky., passed away at her home on Sunday, July 7, 2013, surrounded by family.
She was born on December 8, 1911, to William Edgar and Ella Tilford Smith. She was a 1929 graduate of Marion High School. She later received college degrees from Western and Murray State Universities.
She was a beloved teacher in both Crittenden County, Ky., and Murphy, Mo. She taught a total of forty-four years. After her retirement, she returned to her home in Marion, Ky. After returning to Marion she was a 4-H Club leader for over 10 years and continued to tutor students well into her nineties.
She was a member of the Marion Baptist Church, Kentucky and Missouri Retired Teacher Associations, Eastern Star, Homemakers Club and she was a Kentucky Colonel.
She is survived by her sons, Tony (Pat) Collins of Marion, Ky., Jerry (Phyllis) Collins of Marion, Ky., Bill (Rebecca) Collins of St. Louis, Mo.; her daughter, Anne T. Collins of Marion, Ky.; her grandchildren, Mark and David Henry, Stuart Collins, Shannon Hodge, Shawna Sharp, Brent Collins, Jennifer Hansen and Matt Collins; her great-grandchildren, Van Hansen, Addyson Collins, Maggie and Mauri Collins, Ryan, Allison, Alyssa, Kyle and Tessa Henry, Jessica and Jordyn Hodge and Tucker and Turner Sharp; her former sons-in-law, Jerry Henry and B.J. Crider; and several nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Torian Collins; her siblings, Bill, Leamon, Roy, John, Pearl Smith and Ada Brown; her nephew, Collie Ray Brown; and great-grandson, Jake Hodge.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, Ky., with interment in Repton Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the funeral home.
