Tilghman senior Victoria Potter won the American Legion State Oratorical Contest at American Legion Post 7 in Frankfort on March 3. Potter, who represented the American Legion First District, received a $2,200 prize. She will represent Kentucky in the National Championship in Indianapolis on April 19-21, where an additional $20,000 in scholarship funds will be offered. Mark Kennedy, First District oratorical coordinator who attended the department (state) championship on behalf of the district, said Potter gave a precise, poised speech. "The competition was very close, but Victoria's poise, presentation and passion about the Constitution and the rights and obligations of our citizens was outstanding and the judges chose her to represent Kentucky at the nationals," he said. Potter displays her certificate, first place medal and championship cup.
