Samuel Hayden

Staff report

FANCY FARM -- Samuel J. Hayden, 89, of Fancy Farm died at 9:32 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service and retired farmer. He was also a former basketball coach at Fancy Farm High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Ann Zitel of Hillsborough, New Jersey, and Ellen Kaye Thomas of Fancy Farm; four sons, Kent Hayden of Huntington Beach, California, Keith Hayden of Andover, Minnesota, Michael Hayden of Plano, Texas, and Patrick Hayden of Paducah; one sister, Sister William Ann Hayden of Nazareth; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Dean Hayden; two sisters; and one brother. His parents were William H. and Anna L. Carrico Hayden.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at the St. Jerome Catholic Church in Fancy Farm with the Rev. Darrell Venters officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Jerome Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the church, where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield is in charge of arrangements.
